Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation

WestCoast Wild Adventures is very honored and pleased that thru the wisdom and integrity of the chief and council that the Tla-o-qui-aht people have entered into a joint venture to allow us to use their traditional territory for this World Class Eco-Adventure. It is very exciting that we will be a part of the Ha'uukmin Tribal Park vision. We believe in the mission and working together we will achieve it.

Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks were first designated in Clayoquot Sound following controversy over the logging of the ancient cedar rainforests of Wah-nah-juss (Meares Island) in the 1980’s. Since the Meares Island Tribal Park declaration, an additional 500sq km of Tla-o-qui-aht territories have been designated as Tribal Park land, including the pristine Clayoquot River Valley. To manage Tribal Parks, Tla-o-qui-aht has taken steps to establish a Tribal Parks organization, which will be ready for incorporation in June of 2009.

Tla-o-qui-aht leadership have adopted a triple bottom line approach to valuing outcomes of Tribal Parks’ operations. To us, this means articulating benefits in terms of financial sustainability, environmental security, and cultural restoration; with the ultimate goal of reaching a balance between healthy economy, healthy communities and a healthy environment.

Our Vision:
To re-establish a healthy integration of economy & environment in which there is balance of creation & consumption and a continual investment in biological & economic diversity.

Our Mission:
We will realize our vision by practicing the teachings of our ancestors, working in close cooperation with our neighbors and having transparent communication with all our stakeholders.
