Ben the Incredible

Ben was the roommate of my daughter's friend when I first met him fresh out of high school in 1998.

Computers and the internet were starting to become mainstream and I needed a website for my new business. Ben was my vision of a true computer geek. He lived on pizza and coke, the kind you drink, in a house full of friends. His passion and commitment more valuable than formal computer training. He built computers, learned code and was fascinated with the quickly evolving pace of the internet. We became friends because I didn’t have much money and money never motivated Ben. So we traded! Over the years we bartered for quite a few scenic flights and zipline trips. I met his other half, Willow, on a flight to Kennedy Lake fifteen years ago. We went skinny dipping.

Our families became close enough that he invited Darlene and I to the most fantastic wedding in the Cowichan Valley a few years ago. He and Willow were having a 'steam punk' themed wedding. What the hell is steam punk we thought, thank goodness for the internet. It was good to see their daughter Ocean again and meet their amazing families and friends. It was definitely the most memorable wedding I have ever been to.

Ben loves working with his hands as well. He casts and welds metal, has more than one CNC machine and works extensively with junk he finds for free. During the spring and summer every year, he and friends design and build unique watercraft for Nanaimo's best summer weekends, the Silly Boat Regatta and the World Championship Bathtub Race.

Ben just designed the brand new kick ass website for WestCoast Wild Adventures, our 4th website version in over two decades of working together. We are now negotiating the final payment in trade for our newest product, "Group Camping" at our Zip-Line and River Paddling site for a reunion camp trip.
